Method
Prepare the Base
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with cinnamon and half of the caramel sauce.
- Spread the apple mixture evenly in the bottom of the crockpot.
Add Cake Topping
- In a separate bowl, mix the yellow cake mix with the melted butter until crumbly.
- Sprinkle the cake mix evenly over the apple mixture in the crockpot.
- Top with chopped pecans if using.
Cook the Cake
- Cover the crockpot with the lid and cook on low for 3 hours, or until the cake is set and the apples are tender.
- Check the cake after 2.5 hours to ensure it doesn’t overcook.
Serve
- Once cooked, turn off the crockpot and let it cool for 10 minutes.
- Drizzle the remaining caramel sauce over the top before serving.
- Serve warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
