Method
Prepare the Base
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, and granulated sugar.
- Add the melted butter and beaten egg to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
- Press the dough evenly into the bottom of a greased 9x13 inch baking pan.
- Bake the base in the preheated oven for 15 minutes.
Prepare the Topping
- In a large bowl, whisk together the corn syrup, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract.
- Stir in the chopped pecans and chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
- Pour the topping mixture over the baked base, spreading it evenly.
- Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until set.
Cool and Serve
- Remove the pan from the oven and allow it to cool completely on a wire rack.
- Once cooled, cut into bars and serve.
