Ingredients
  

For the Base
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 large egg beaten
For the Topping
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

Prepare the Base
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, and granulated sugar.
  3. Add the melted butter and beaten egg to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  4. Press the dough evenly into the bottom of a greased 9x13 inch baking pan.
  5. Bake the base in the preheated oven for 15 minutes.
Prepare the Topping
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the corn syrup, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  2. Stir in the chopped pecans and chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  3. Pour the topping mixture over the baked base, spreading it evenly.
  4. Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until set.
Cool and Serve
  1. Remove the pan from the oven and allow it to cool completely on a wire rack.
  2. Once cooled, cut into bars and serve.
