Ingredients

For the Base
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup apple cider preferably fresh
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Topping
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce
  • 1/4 cup cinnamon sugar mix of sugar and cinnamon

Method

Prepare the Donut Batter
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a donut pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix the apple cider, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
Bake the Donuts
  1. Spoon the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about 3/4 full.
  2. Bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  3. Let the donuts cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
Add the Topping
  1. Once the donuts are cool, dip the tops into the caramel sauce, allowing the excess to drip off.
  2. Then, dip the caramel-coated tops into the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  3. Place the finished donuts on a plate or wire rack to set the toppings.
