  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F/43°C)
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ cup shredded cheese or fresh herbs (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix warm milk and sugar; sprinkle yeast on top. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until bubbly.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and melted butter; mix until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough, divide into golf-ball-sized pieces, and roll into balls.
  6. Optionally roll each ball in melted butter mixed with cheese or herbs before arranging them in a tree shape on a baking tray.
