Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk and yeast; let sit until frothy (about 5 minutes).
  2. In another bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, and salt. Create a well in the center; add melted butter and egg mixture along with the yeast blend.
  3. Knead dough on a floured surface until smooth (about 10 minutes). Place in a greased bowl; cover and let rise in a warm spot until doubled (about 1 hour).
  4. Prepare filling by mixing chopped figs, walnuts, brown sugar, and soaked rum in a bowl.
  5. After rising, punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick; spread the filling evenly across. Roll up tightly and slice into buns.
  6. Place buns in a greased baking dish; cover and let rise again until doubled (about 30 minutes). Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) during this time.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
