  • 8 slices crusty bread (sourdough or French)
  • 1 lb thinly sliced ribeye or sirloin beef
  • 1 medium sweet onion, sliced
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded provolone cheese
  • 2 tbsp butter (for greasing and layering)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter and sauté sliced onions and green peppers until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add the beef to the skillet, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned, approximately 5 minutes.
  4. Layer half of the bread at the bottom of the greased dish. Top with half of the beef mixture and a mix of cheddar and provolone cheese. Repeat layers once more.
  5. Place remaining bread on top, brush with melted butter, and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
