Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1 cup whole milk (warmed to 110°F)
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (for filling)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted, plus more for greasing)
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tsp chai spice blend (cardamom, ginger, cloves, black pepper)
  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened for frosting)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk and yeast; let sit until frothy (about 5 minutes). Add sugar, pumpkin puree, melted butter, and mix in flour until a soft dough forms.
  2. Knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl covered with a cloth; let rise in a warm spot until doubled (about 1 hour).
  3. Roll out the dough into a rectangle about half an inch thick. Spread softened butter over the surface.
  4. Mix brown sugar with cinnamon and chai spices; sprinkle over the rolled-out dough.
  5. Roll dough tightly from one edge into a log shape and slice into equal pieces (about 1 inch thick).
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F. Place rolls in a greased baking dish; let rise again for about 30 minutes. Bake for around 25 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Prepare frosting by mixing softened cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth. Drizzle over warm rolls before serving.
