Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup whole milk, warm
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar (dark)
  • Zest and juice of 1 orange
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast; let sit for 5 minutes until foamy. Stir in melted butter and eggs. Gradually add flour until a soft dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  3. For the filling, mix brown sugar, ground ginger, and cinnamon in a small bowl. Roll out the risen dough into a rectangle, spread softened butter over it, and sprinkle the filling evenly across.
  4. Roll the dough tightly from one long side to form a log shape; slice into about 12 even pieces and place them in a greased baking dish.
  5. For the glaze, mix orange juice with brown sugar until smooth; pour over the rolled-up buns before baking at 350°F (175°C) for approximately 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
