Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 store-bought or homemade pie crust
  • 6 slices thick-cut bacon
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese (or cheddar)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Unroll the pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish, pressing it down gently and trimming excess.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook diced bacon until crispy (5-7 minutes). Remove and drain on paper towels.
  3. In the same skillet, sauté the chopped onion in bacon drippings until translucent (about 3 minutes).
  4. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, salt, pepper, and nutmeg until smooth.
  5. Layer the bacon, sautéed onions, and cheese in the crust. Pour the egg mixture over the top.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until puffed and golden brown. Allow cooling slightly before slicing.
